Hi

I posted a introduction in the German forum (if you don't read that, great, you won't see how bad my German is...)

Got a SRC last week for my company car, and really really like. Couple little things I'd try to change if I owned it, like a smaller steering wheel and quicker steering box (not so easy I know), more bolstered seats, and try to get some more power...
But one of big things that bugs me is the gearbox - overall its fun and works well, but would be great to disable the automatic shifting at redline, why not a way to get a "F1 style start" like you can do with M3s?

Has anyone found a secret code or shift-lever sequence to unlock these features? Or has anybody hacked into the gearbox control via a chip?

Hope to see some of you at the Nürburgring - should be taking the SR there in June and/or July.

cheers - have a few gratuitous pix if you want to take a peek

Hi Kurt, well getting more powers not a problem, there a a few Tuners where you can get new software to boost your BHP,mine for instance has 110BHP and it makes a hell of a difference in acceleration and a minimal difference in top speed plus the gear changes are quicker and much smoother and the pause is shortened quite a bit but what do you mean exactly by saying disabling shifting at redline? if you mean that the gearbox changes automatically at roundabout 5500-6000rpm then it wouldnt be that great an idea because sooner or later your engine would blow But im not sure if thats exactly what you mean, never driven an M3 you see.Dont forget if you do get your Roadster chipped that your garanty/warrenty from smarts side is gone though.

Hi Kurt,

About Formula1 Start, push the accelerator padel to the "kick down" position, and you'll get 4000rpm until the clutch is closing an the car starting! Thats the "smart F1" start, not like a F360 or M3 but.....
This will work in manual or automatic shiftmode.
About shifting at redline, the older fotwo didn't....and it was realy bad to "stand still" at the redline wile overtaking. I much prefer the new system.

Hi and thanks for the responses Alex and Tom -

Didn't do a very good job explaining myself...
RE: "redline shift", what I'm concerned about is mainly on the Nürburgring, say I'm taking a higher speed turn, and hitting the throttle somewhere in the middle of the turn to get a good exit speed... Since I haven't had a lot of practice with the car on or off the track yet to anticipate exactly where the shift points are, and with wind noise and a helmet on you just can't hear the revs, when 5500-6000rpms come the car will automatically up-shift, meaning an abrupt and unsettling weight transfer, which isn't very nice when you're driving near the limits would rather it bump off a rev limiter and let me shift myself when I'm straightened out and pointed down the staightaway! Of course I can be safe and up shift before the turn starts, but "power" in the stock SR is not exactly easy to come by, and would be nicer to be in the power-band of the motor coming off the apex... its killing me that I can't tune the motor, but Avis would flip a tit...

For the "F1 start" I was referring to the ability to keep the throttle nailed (at a standstill) and then somehow activate the gearbox, so the computer juggles the clutch to give y perfect balance of wheelspin and grip, theoretically launching you at the quickest possible speed. In the M3 I have read that by doing something like "left-left-up-down-up-down" with the gearlever, it activates this function...
Thomas maybe this is what you meant? Say I'm sitting at a traffic light. Do I leave the gearbox in "1" or switch it into "N" before going to 4000? I've tried to put it in "N", lightly press the brake and rev to about 3000, then simultaneaously put the gearlever to "1st" and release brakes. One time I got a fairly hard, quick start, the other time the car I think got mad at me and just sat there in "N" revving up high Pretty embarrassing...

ok got to do some work, not easy when the SR is sitting right out side tempting me to take her out!

cheers
Kurt

You can bet on that

Unless you find a tuner in your Area which means you could play the software on and off before going to services etc.

Tuners will do that for free

Hi Kurt,

Leave the Gearbox in "1" or "A", both will work!

Thomas
