Hi all !
Me & my girlfriend are planning for a journey in our Roadster from Sweden, Denmark, northern Germany and perhaps continuing through Holland, Belgium and finally France. We are planning to stay close to the coast and prefer smaller roads rather than the Autobahn and we are not interested in large cities. We haven't decided for any particular place to go for (yet).
Can anyone recommend any nice routes ?
Is it easy to find "Bed&Breakfast" as you go or do we have to book in advance (which would spoil the fun of taking the day as it comes.
Any suggestions on nice places in Schleswig-Holstein or northern France ?
I appreciate any suggestions since we know very little about your country and the other ones.

This summer (2005) we plan to take the roadster on the train (http://www.autozug.de/) from Hamburg to Avignon i south of France and then drive around in France and then up through Germany.
I don't know very much about Germany and would appreciate any tip on nice roads to travel or areas to visit. Perhaps we should travel the Rhein-valley ? Is that a good idea? Is it crowded with tourists in July?
Are there any Smart events i Germany in july?
Is it worth visiting Smartville in Hambach?

Regards

Hey Janne,
your tour looks great.
You asked about an event in Germany in july. There is a big one in Wermelskirchen (about 40km in nothern direction from Cologne). It's called the "Bergische Tour".
It will start on 09.07. with a nice tour, and another tour on sunday, for further information send me a PM.

Regards
Lars

P.S. Please excuse my bad english

Hi Janne,

You can take nice roads in the Black-Forrest (Schwarzwald) if you are coming over Switzerland. As well you can visit the "Rheinfall" near "Schaffhausen".

Or you can drive through the "Vogesen" in France (I don't know the english word for Vogesen, sorry) and then to "Saarland". At this direction you could visit "smartville".

The Rhein-Valley could be nice between "Mainz" and "Köln", but don't use the Highway, because you don't see much from there. The "Bergische Tour" is a great event .

But I would prefer a route through the "Eifel" (you can see pictures in this Forum) and then the "Bergische Tour".

If you are coming over "Karlsruhe", or else if you like, send me a PM.
I hope, you understand my bad english.
Best wishes and have a nice trip

Matthias

Hi Janne!
Sorry for this misunderstanding, I read your posting too fast. I noticed, your`re from Sweden but too late. The Rhein- Valley is nice, but you won`t find the really nice places without a guide. If you don`t want to go where every tourist goes, join us. We know the Rhein-valley as our pocket, because we live about 20 km from there. We will send you our telephonenumber with PM, so you can contact us, if you want.
Greetings from Rheinhessen,
Marina & Achim

Now we've been home for 2 weeks after a great tour through France & Germany. If anyone is interested, we have made a travel-diary with photos, text and links.

You can find it here:

Nice Pictures !

In the middel and end of the Travel you have a smile of your face , then i think it was a good journey for you .

In south France it costs much , say a statistic , but Sweden also .

I was this year in Denmark , and perhaps i think to drive to Sweden , but over the Belt with the car , not ship . But it was to hot and i have sunfire on me . Where are important
point in Sweden ? I think buildings or great nature sightseeing , perhaps you can link to it .

When you the next come to Germany , you must drive to Munich ( your princess come from there ) , or black Forest called Schwarzwald , or when you want shopping in the outlet store by Boss , Escada , Joop , Puma , etc. in Metzingen . Germany are very imposant . Or other people from here can you give a tip near their town .

Hi Janne!

Sorry but there is no ocean at this corner of France... "just" the Mediterranean Sea... it's much different, or did you see people surfing (riding waves) at this place

Thanks, I think it was a great trip.
We avoided the expensive places in France like Nice and Cannes so it didn't cost very much for us, at leat not more than in Germany or Sweden.

It's not easy to giva tips for places to see in Sweden since it is a large country (like Germany).
If you drive here it would be best to stay on the west coast where there are lots of nice places. I live in Göteborg which is the second largest (and the nicest) city in Sweden.
There are lots of small roads to drive a roadster on in great nature scenary.

I don't understand what you mean with "your princess come from there", can you explain?

Sorry for this BIG mistake
We must have been so confused from the heat that we didn't know where we were.
Or perhaps you just read wrong, check it again, it is probably is correct by now.

Hi Janne!

Errare humanum est!

Anyway, I hope it was a nice trip and you take good remembers of France. To your problem with french police, you have to know, that at the time you were in France, London has been bombed by islamic terrorists. France and Italy will surely be the next targets... so excuse the police-people just doing there job...

P.S.: if you want to see where I come from, just go to:

and also to:
http://www.atomic-eggs.com/roadster/urlaub_2004/
or just http://www.atomic-eggs.com/roadster (to see all roadster pics)
Well, tomorrow I will be in the Massif Central, near to Aurillac for one week (just on the road back to Germany, after 3 weeks in Lège...)

Exact . Do you like it ?

Zitat:
I have to say that Germany is no fun to drive in. The landscape is really boring and the germans drive like F1-drivers, often over 200 km/h and make terrible turn-overs, never following any speedlimits or traffic rules.

I can feel with you , you have never seen before , but for us is normality .

Germany is the only country of the whole world . where not excist a general speed limit . To us come many tourists who take a fast car and want to drive max. speed .

The good of them is , that the German cars are the best of the world , because all parts of the car must be enough for the high speed . The car industry must all pieces produced by high quality , because they lost the name , when a mistake was found .
( Like Michelin by the Americans Formel I this year )

But the statistic says , in Germany also much carambolage , how other countries .
The problems are Alcohol , young drivers , speed in town , etc .

Denmark is nice, the people are really curious about the Rodster. On one occasion a car drove up on our side and started to take pictures, drove infront of us and continued to take photos and giving us a lot of smiles.

Yeah , i have seen the same stories in Denmark .
Every place i come , they look like , i come from the moon .

The Smart Roadster is a great star there . I drive at the beach and everybody looks at them . The people have a lot of questions : Who build this car ? and other questions .

I think this are , because in Denmark , nobody can buy offiziel a Smart .
There gives no Smartdealer .

Sarcasm warning...

Zitat:

Ahhh, I see. German cars are "the best of the world" because there's no speedlimit. So you suggest that imported cars are NOT built for "high speed" and should therefore contribute to elementary road safety by imposing a voluntary limit upon themselves, owing to their mediocre quality which in turn is imposed by the fact that there IS a speedlimit in the countries they originate from. Did I grasp that about right?

Zitat:

Which, of course, would never happen since German cars are the best in the world... assembled of highest quality parts - a result, undoubtedly, from being entirely untouched by the nastyness of something like a speedlimit in this blessed, beloved country of ours. A matter, by the way, which does not fall into the equation at all for foreign car makers. Their reputation is on bottom level anyway... must be.... they've got a speedlimit, so who cares if they fail... that was only to be expected

Gosh...

Pierre

Well, your feeble attempts at writing English set aside, I am hard put to feel pity for you. You might believe this to be the ideal place for you to salivate the entirely unfounded utter rubbish making up your pathetic, twisted views of the world, but I’m sorry – it just ain’t so.

Still mildly amused, Pierre (who holds his breath, eagerly awaiting tons of posts from your friends around the world expressing their gratitude for how you opened their eyes as to why German cars are “the best of the world”… dear dear)

Just to clear things out:
The quote from the french site where I complain about german drivers & landscape is one year old. We had just come back from a not very satisfying trip through north-west Germany with bad weather, raining every day and 15 degrees. The landscape was all flat with only farms and fields.
This quote does not apply to our experinces from this years trip where the landscape was fantastic and we had fewer experiences with F1-drivers on the road.

Now I understand why my car is of such fantastic quality, never failing (except the passenger door which collapsed in Switzerland)

Amazed by modern technology where it is possible to quote from one site to another
