Thema: Engine Temperature Smart Roadster Coupé Bluewave

mnewcourt - 24.3.2012 um 14:40

Goodafternoon fellow Smart Roadster owners,

I recently bought a Smart Roadster Coupé Bluewave so I can drive it instead of my regular Smart Roadster Coupé 60kw that is now for sale.

Now when I was first driving it I noticed that the engine temperature is very much higher then in my regular Smart Roadster Coupé.

When i drive my regular Smart Roadster on the highway it stays around the 70 degrees mark but with the Bluewave it easily reaches the 80 degrees mark and in town traffic 90-100 degrees. The thing I did when driving in town was lowering the windows and put the blower on warm and full so it would drop and stay at around 80.

My question is this normal for a Bluewave? I do think there is some kind of Brabus tuning in the engine because it gets faster of the line then my regular Smart Roadster. I must say that the bluewave hasn't been driving with since 2007 so that could explain it but I'm not sure. The local Mercedes-Benz dealer did change all the liquids before I drove this car.

I hope you can help me out.

Kind regards,

Mike

Hello mnewcourt,

i would guess 70 deg. max. is a bit low, 100+ deg is too high under normal running conditions.
Did you notice wether the vent in the front was running or not? It should be running above 90deg.
Does the front cooler get hot at all? If only warm or cold get the thermostate and the water pump checked.
A Bluewave is not supposed to run at a much higher themperature than a "normal" SR.

Alright thank you I will look after it this afternoon and tomorrow.

So the normal running temperatures of the Smart Roadster should be around the 80-90 degrees mark?

I would call that the healthy temperatures. At low outside temp. it is sometimes hard to reach the 80 degrees mark and you might reach 95+ in a traffic jam on a hot day but the vetilator should cool this down very quickly. Of course there is a chance the gauge is simply not showing the real water temperature.

I think everything is running well now. The Smart hasn't moved a lot in a while and the temperature is now always around 85 even in city traffic then it goes up till about 88.

Thank you for your help.
